Special Events

Special Events are those that don’t fit very well into one of the other categories.

  • NARCON “Mixer”:  Held between the time the doors open on Friday evening and the start of the Opening Ceremonies, this is a chance for you to mingle with the other attendees, greet old friends and make new ones, find the meeting rooms, and visit the vendors.

  • Opening Ceremonies:  A general welcome and orientation session where your NARCON Director will provide notes regarding any changes or updates as well as address the attendees.

  • Special Guest Speakers (aka "Keynote Addresses")

    • Andrew Vano: "The X-15 Flight Test Program - Experiences of a (Then) Young NASA Aerospace Engineer"  The X-15 was a rocket powered research airplane designed to investigate the hypersonic flight regime at speeds to Mach 6 and altitudes to 250,000 ft. It exceeded these goals during its 1959 to 1968 flight test program at the NASA Flight Research Center, Edwards AFB, California. Andrew Vano will describe the X-15 and its achievements, and present some of his personal experiences working with the team of amazing people who made the X-15 the most successful research airplane ever flown.

    • John Weyrauch, the Vice President of Engineering at ATK Advanced Weapons Division located in Plymouth, Minnesota, will discuss ATK's current programs. (ATK makes the solid rocket motors for the shuttle and (soon) for the CEV, as well as motors for strategic and tactical military systems).

  • NAR Town Hall Meeting:  NAR President Mark Bundick will conduct an open meeting for all attending NAR members.

  • Door Prizes:  Throughout the weekend, we will be giving away free prizes, donated by rocketry companies across the country. Our list of supporting vendors is here.  Be sure to fill out the entry forms included in your registration packet and deposit them in the marked container.
